A senior village is a nonprofit membership organization offering volunteer and affordable services for older adults living in a particular geographic area. Throughout the U.S. and abroad, senior villages are helping make it possible for individuals to remain in their own homes as their advancing age poses challenges to their independence.
A village can also be the basis for strengthening intergenerational relationships and a sense of community, as neighbors help each other and interact in a variety of new activities. A village is like a hybrid of an elderly cooperative, a social club, and a concierge service. It can, for example, link members to volunteers who might do grocery shopping, clear a snowy walkway, or change a light bulb, and to vetted professionals for home repairs, transportation, and home health care. Social activities might include educational programs, a movie outing, or a walking club.

Work to establish the Downtown Silver Spring Senior Village (DSSSV) has been ongoing since late 2010. We hope to enroll members and start providing services and programs in Spring 2013. Please return to this website to check our progress toward that goal.
Our Village will be centered in the 20910 zip code. If you live in or near zip code 20910, please complete our brief survey. This will let us know what kinds of services might be of interest to you or other members of your household. The survey can be accessed and completed online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/NH7SFNG. (Only one response per household, please.)
If you have any questions about DSSSV or are interested in getting involved, please email us at: info@dsssvillage.org
